3,000-year-old Drill Bit Workshop Unearthed in Vietnam’s

According to the provincial museum, an ancient drill bit workshop dating back more than 3,000 years has been discovered at an archaeological site in the Ea Sup district of Dak Lak’s Central Highlands province.

The discovery was made between March 28 and April 29 at the Thac Hai archaeological site in Ia J’loi commune by scientists from the National Museum of History and the Dak Lak Museum.

The thousands of items unearthed were announced to be the largest drill bit workshop ever found in Vietnam.

Archaeologists believe the ancient inhabitants of Thac Hai were skilled craftsmen based on what they’ve discovered. The 3,000-year-old drill bits are thought to have been used to make jewelry due to their meticulously sharpened edges and polished surfaces.

At the site, tombs were also found, one of which was of a craftsman buried with objects such as ceramic vases, pestles, axes, and drill bits all neatly stacked at the bottom of the grave.
